Program aims

The main goal of the mechanical engineering program is to prepare students in a way that enables them to successfully join the job market and prove themselves as professional engineers.
The program is designed to fulfill the following attributes in its graduates:
  • Apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering
  • Design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze, and interpret data
  • Design a system, component, or a process to meet required needs
  • An ability to function in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems
  • Understand professional and ethical responsibility
  • Communicate effectively
  • Acquire the broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global and societal context
  • Recognize the need for, and ability to engage in lifelong learning
  • Acquire knowledge of contemporary issues
  • Use the techniques, skills, and modem engineering tools necessary for engineering practice
  • Apply the probabilistic methods and statistics to mechanical engineering problems
  • Use effectively the information technology tools to design, develop, and implement mechanical systems.

Intellectual skills:

  • Ability to define and analyze different design problems
  • Compare, analyze, and criticize different case studies, evaluate design alternatives, and conclude results, based on analytical thinking
  • Solve technical problems often on the basis of limited and possibly contradicting information
  • Using theoretical analysis, modeling, and simulation to formulate a given problem in mechanical and mechatronics engineering
  • Ability to derive different alternative solutions and take decisions about system implementations, taking into consideration: balanced costs, benefits, technology applicability, safety, quality, reliability, site constraints, urban planning contexts, and environmental impact
  • Select and appraise appropriate computer-aided design tools, and engineering methodologies
