Intended learning outcomes (ILOs)

Upon completion of the program, graduates should be able to satisfy the following criteria professionally in a self-directed manner:

Knowledge and understanding:

  • Demonstrate knowledge and an understanding of concepts and theories of basic, applied, and engineering sciences appropriate for electrical engineering
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the basics of information and communication technology (ICT)
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the basic principles of electrical engineering design and planning, as process and product
  • Acquire knowledge and understanding of different components and circuits used within electrical engineering industries
  • Illustrate and describe solutions for different problems in various ways: verbally, graphically, using simulation and development of prototypes
  • Identify different electrical system structure and execution, design methods, and techniques
  • Identify the different elements of the natural environment, different energy types, appropriate environmental control techniques, and different technical installations, affecting electrical systems
  • Understand architectural, physical, and computer modeling, simulation, rendering, and presentation techniques
  • Demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of the social, environmental, ethical, and economic considerations, as well as human factors, affecting the utilization of electric and electronic equipment and the impact of introducing new technologies especially in the field of communication and IT
  • Identify problems, list customer needs and requirements, and gather relevant information
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of electrical and electronic system regulations, and standard codes

Intellectual skills:

  • Ability to define and analyze different design problems
  • Compare, analyze, and criticize different case studies, evaluate design alternatives, and draw conclusions based on analytical thinking
  • Solve technical problems, often on the basis of limited and possibly contradicting information
  • Use theoretical analysis, modeling, and simulation to formulate given problems in electrical engineering
  • Ability to derive different alternative solutions and take decisions about system implementations, taking into consideration: balanced costs, benefits, technology applicability, safety, quality, reliability, site constraints, urban planning context, and environmental impact
  • Select and appraise appropriate computer-aided design tools, and engineering methodologies

Professional and practical skills:

  • Ability to integrate knowledge and understanding of mathematics, science, art, information technology, design and engineering concepts to design and plan electrical and electronic systems and to solve problems
  • Conduct research and collect data from different resources
  • Use appropriate techniques for representation
  • Design electrical projects within proper technical, safety, and ethical frameworks
  • Prepare working drawings and construction documents for design projects
