This course analyses the evolution of human communities from tribal societies to modern states. It examines problems and issues related to the relationship between humans and their environment and their ability to adapt and develop. It also deals with problems of urbanization and hyper-urbanization such as tension, conflict and violence. It also touches on the role of civic society organizations, charities as well as NGOs in creating and maintaining social equilibrium and tranquility. Course Goals: • Examine the major social theoretical perspectives. • Teach the different types of culture. • Discuss the major theories of socialization. • Review the different types of statuses, social roles, groups and organizations.
