Area of Study :

The main goal of this course is to: 1. Enhance the student's knowledge and awareness regarding the different roles he/she will play in his future professional practice. 2. Enhance the student's knowledge and awareness regarding the duties and rights of different parties of project life cycle: Client, Contractor, and Architect. 3. Train student to use "building law bylaw", "building safety code", and "Egyptian Engineers Syndicate" bylaws for fee estimation.

The course explains the roles and the relationship between the different participants in the construction process; the Architect, the contractor and the owner. It is a study of the professional practice, codes and legislations in terms of rights, commitments, ethics and scope of services. Types of contracts, fees and bidding are important issues of this course. Also, case studies of real sites are examined, discussed and analyzed in classes.

Course outcomes:

a. Knowledge and Understanding:

1- Listing the Architect's Consultation services that can be provided to client.
2- Selecting the "suitable to use" Statement in case of planning and land dividing.
3- Selecting the "suitable to use" Statement in case of building design.
4- Defining the Architect's role, rights and commitment in light of the legislations and Egyptian Engineers Syndicate.
5- Defining the Contractor's role, rights and commitment in light of the FIDIC
6- Defining the contracts agreements types.

b. Intellectual Skills:

1- Analyzing the architectural project legality in light of local building codes and legislations.
2- Evaluating construction contracts agreement and guarantee against construction flaws.
3- Evaluating a correct consultation contract between the client and the architect in light of the needed scope of work.

c. Professional and Practical Skills:

1- Calculating the architect's fee based on the needed scope of work according to the Egyptian Engineers Syndicate bylaws.
2- Applying "Building Law No.119 Est. 2008" and its bylaw in design projects.
3- Applying fire safety requirements in design projects.

d. General and Transferable Skills:

1- Searching for data in references.
2- Deal with colleagues according to professional ethics
