Course Description

This course covers the relation between the government and businesses on the global and national level, how government regulation limits the scope of business, how business interests or lobbies affect politics, whether in election campaigns or otherwise. The role of business lobbies in governance, and how this might or might not lead to a level of corruption. Case studies are covered.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, the participant will be able to:

Analyze arguments about what government and corporate policies ought to be
Analyze arguments regarding claims made about the effects of government policies on business
Understand the how and why of government policy-making
Be able to "forecast" changes in government policy
Develop substantive Knowledge of political institutions
Become familiar with the effects of differing government policies on national industrial organization
Learn about the effects of business on government in Egypt and abroad
