Course Description

The course aims at developing a knowledge of basic concepts of thermodynamics, properties of pure substances, energy transfer by heat, work and mass, the first law of thermodynamics, application of first law of thermodynamics (steady and transient processes), gas power cycles, vapor and combined gas cycles, refrigeration cycles and gas mixtures.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, the participant will be able to:

Identify basic concepts of thermodynamics
Determine properties of pure substances energy transfer by heat, work, and mass
Inspect the first law of thermodynamics
Analyze applications of the first law of thermodynamics (steady and transient processes)
Examine the features of gas power cycles
Study components and performance of vapor and combined gas cycles
Exercise characteristics of refrigeration cycles.
Evaluate properties of gas mixtures
