Recent Advances In Sinus Floor Elevations

Prof. Makary, Christian PhD

Head and Assistant Professor in the oral surgery department, Faculty of Dental Medicine of St Joseph University in Beirut, Lebanon

Sinus floor elevation represents today a predictable solution allowing implant placement in atrophic posterior maxilla with high implant success rate. Several techniques and different grafting biomaterials have been used clinically, depending on residual bone, patient’s needs and implantation protocols.
During this presentation, we will present an evidence-based approach of this technique relying on recent clinical, radiographic and histologic studies. Recent advances in sinus grafting techniques will be exposed with special emphasis on the importance of new technologies such piezosurgery to perform the surgical procedure and cone beam computed tommography when planning sinus augmentation as well as following up graft outcome over short and delayed healing periods. Furthermore, new developments in biomaterials will be discussed based on histological and micro CT results.
