Economic thinker and professor of economics at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science - Cairo University. He assumed the position of Minister of Social Solidarity after the January 25th Revolution, and was a member of the Political Bureau of the Tagammu Party. Dr. Abdel-Khalek was a visiting professor at a number of universities, such as the American University in Cairo, the University of Tunis in Tunis, and Johns Hopkins, California, Los Angeles, and Southern California in the United States. He holds a PhD in Economics from McMaster University, Canada. Prof. Abdul-Khaleq has published numerous books and research papers in the fields of industry and industrialization, trade openness, economic reform and its distributional effects, and internal public debt. Dr. Abdel-Khalek was awarded the State Award for Excellence in Social Sciences from the Supreme Council of Culture, in 2005, and the Nile Prize in Social Sciences in 2020.
