The English Language Department
The English Language Department (ELD) is a service department that provides language instruction to students from the six faculties at FUE. As English is the medium of instruction at all the faculties, the ELD strives to ensure that the students have a level of language proficiency that enables them to perform within an academic environment and compete in the global workforce. The ELD also serves the community through providing English Language training and professional development opportunities to a diverse range of audiences. Because of its expertise, the ELD is responsible for developing and managing the English Language Programmes offered at the Department of Continuing Education (DCE) at FUE. The English Language Programmes include Academic and General English Language Courses, English Language Exam preparation courses. Our professional development programme includes internationally recognized certificates as Cambridge CELTA. The ELD also administers international English proficiency tests, e.g. (CEPT, IELTS and OET). The ELD continuously improves its processes and develops new services such as the introduction of administration of international exams, thereby creating sources of competitive advantage to respond to market changes.

Educational Philosophy
The ELD’s educational philosophy is that every student has the right to quality English Language Education. Quality entails: careful recruitment of teachers, choice of learning materials, classroom environment that encourages learning and interaction. The ELD adopts the CEFR as a framework of reference for language learning and assessment. This is reflected in students’ placement, course description, textbook selection and assessment.
